Years ago our daughter was healed of an infection of the inner ear. This healing caused us to rely radically on prayer for healing. As a result, I was inspired to apply for Christian Science class instruction. I felt that through this way of preparation I might be able to pay my debt of gratitude to God with a more useful contribution to Christian Science.
It was my happy privilege to serve The Mother Church for twelve years. This came about in a most unexpected way, and I have been blessed by this work. My life has been enriched beyond measure.
During those years, weekdays were spent in active office work, and home activities kept me very occupied on weekends. Sometimes I felt I had too much to do. One Sunday afternoon I helped my husband trim a large tree in our yard. The strain of the physical work, along with the weariness, appeared to have an adverse effect on my heart. I was tempted to stay home from work the following morning. However, since I was working in a healing atmosphere, I decided it was the place to be and that God would support me. I had sufficient strength to do the day's work and, in addition, to attend a Christian Science lecture that evening. The lecturer explained a Bible verse in such a unique and healing way that I was deeply inspired, and I returned home that evening completely healed of the heart condition.
