My first healing, which occurred many years ago, was one of chilblains of the feet. It was during the time I lived in the Midwest. My mother was not one to urge her family to go to a doctor for such ills, but rather she applied all the home remedies she and her neighbors could think of. There were no healing results. It was well along in the spring of the year, and still I could not wear shoes over that part of my feet. One day a friend of my mother's recommended that I try Christian Science. I took her advice and went to see a Christian Science practitioner in a downtown office. She handed me a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and asked me to read a passage while she gave me treatment. This is what I read and reread (p. 520): "Unfathomable Mind is expressed. The depth, breadth, height, might, majesty, and glory of infinite Love fill all space." This one treatment resulted in an instantaneous healing of my feet. From that point I became a student of Christian Science.
Another healing, which to me was outstanding, related to the location of my home and career. One morning as I sat at my desk in the office where I was employed, the thought came to me to accept the offer that had just been presented to me to move from the Midwest to a southern state. The thought of leaving the city that had always been my home was very startling to me, because it meant quite an adjustment in my private life, such as selling a house and disposing of many things. However, I realized too that I had been earnestly praying to understand more fully that God does direct each individual idea in all ways. That night as I was studying at home and endeavoring to quiet my concern, I picked up a current issue of The Christian Science Journal. One of the articles had this reference from the Bible (Judg. 18:10), "When ye go, ye shall come unto a people secure, and to a large land: for God hath given it into your hands; a place where there is no want of any thing that is in the earth." I felt that this was my answer, and I followed through with the leading to move. I have been most grateful for this move, as it certainly was the hand of God directing me.
Another evidence of the omnipresence of God was the healing of a number of warts on my hand. Often, in prayer about this embarrassing condition on the hand, I would remember how the children of Israel were given many signs along the way from Egypt to the Promised Land that God was guiding and protecting them. I came to realize that as God helped the children of Israel, He was also present to help me. One day soon after that realization, I looked at my hand and, to my great joy and appreciation, it was free of warts.
