"The primary duty of ushering is prayer"

The real meaning of ushering

From the July 1978 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christ Jesus extended a loving welcome to all humanity when he said, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matt. 11:28; He was, of course, referring to the Christ, the spirit of Truth and Love, which comforts, heals, and saves. It is the privilege of all church members, not merely the appointed ushers, to work and pray for that spiritual consciousness which mankind will recognize as representing the Christ, the Comforter, divine Science.

Our church's mission is to redeem humanity from the belief of life or mind in matter with its sin, disease, and death, and awaken them to life in God, thereby healing human ills. And every member has the opportunity to support this function through prayer for our services.

Jesus knew that it is thought uplifted to the Christ that draws people. He said, "And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me." John 12:32;By uplifting our thought and keeping it in line with the divine, we will add to that Christly light that radiates from our church services and attracts others.
