"Thought and expression fulfill each other"

Enough time to think?

From the July 1978 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Constructive, original, alert thinking requires conscious effort and practice.

Are we constantly renewing our reading approach to the Bible and to Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy as depths and levels of meaning continue to educate and bring inspiration? Do we devote enough time to consistent perusal of Mrs. Eddy's other writings, as well as to wide-ranging reading on a variety of subjects?

Sometimes a great effort is needed to really ponder the arresting and often startling statements contained in the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings. These works demand nothing less of the reader. The originality of Mrs. Eddy's expression is a lucid illustration of the depth and scope of her thought and directly reflects its quality. Christ Jesus, too, expressed himself in penetrating, powerful, yet simple terms, cutting through blandness and cluttered dogmatic teaching to the truth of what he knew. We know from observations about Jesus made in the Bible, and from reports of Mrs. Eddy's life, that they both spent many hours in deep thought and communion with God.
