Church treasurer, worthy steward

Do you consider the responsibilities of a church treasurer mainly depositing collections in a bank, issuing checks to pay bills, posting records, and submitting reports? Far more is involved.

A worthy steward fortifies these functions with potent and clear thinking about supply. Understanding God's unfailing provision is absolutely essential for the job.

A common temptation is to define church resources as money and either be complacent because receipts adequately cover expenses or be worried because of lack. If we've fallen into this trap, we may cringe a bit when we remember Christ Jesus' reprimand, "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone." Matt. 23:23;
