The work that is prayer

From the October 1979 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The status of divine creation is perfection. God's work is done. Our prayerful work is needed only to bring the realization of spiritual perfection—by degrees— to human consciousness.

How do we do this work? The truth is that only divine goodness, only Spirit, is absolute reality. Christian Science shows us this spiritual fact behind the material scene. Our work consists of the discerning Mrs. Eddy describes when she interprets the biblical "Elias" as "prophecy; . . . Christian Science, with which can be discerned the spiritual fact of whatever the material senses behold ...." Science and Health, p. 585;

Through working and praying we discern the spiritual truth, expose error as unreal, and correct the false evidence of the physical senses. Recognizing the truth of perfect spiritual being, we uncover and reject false thought. All thoughts admitting imperfection, matter, evil, are false. Our refusal to accept falsity prohibits its effects from reaching us.
