THE PATH

Proverbs 3:5, 6

From the October 1979 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Where shall I turn? Who can direct?
With human wants, I wanted
a human answer.
Instead,
"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart."
But how could I, with all my heart?

Console me!
Reassure me (I thought) of my own abilities!
"Lean not unto thine own understanding"
became, slowly,
a raft in my ocean of uncertainty.

The source of real ability grew clear.
"In all thy ways acknowledge him."
Chains of response, and responsibility,
loosened and fell away.

Now, turned and directed,
I can actively rest—knowing God's control.
"He shall direct thy paths."
