Jesus didn't say (as the first commandment)
Thou shalt love the Lord your God
with 50% of your heart and soul, your mind and strength,
reserving 50% of your energy and love
for more important matters.
He spoke from experience,
(his the single eye,
his the life in focus,
discerning);
no fractions there—
no unfinished work, lingering pain,
delayed healing, partial achievement
in his living and sharing.
Wholeheartedness was the word
and need,
the potential
and fact
about man.
Scant harvest from half heart
(so many in search).
Power does multiply
from pure integrity;
he reckoned the yield (without an exception)
of total devotion,
as the outcast, the diseased,
the vexed and the paralyzed,
the overwhelmed and the hesitant
acknowledged the one God,
admitted the singular,
accepted their wholeness,
and were healed.
