Ever since I was a child, I have received help and inspiration from the testimonies appearing in the Christian Science periodicals. The assurance of God's great love for mankind that I gained as a child has remained with me and given me trust and understanding to meet many problems, both during my younger days and in rearing a family.
When the children were young, I realized the need for further understanding and had Christian Science class instruction. Soon after this our four-year-old son severely scalded his foot. He was in pain and crying constantly. I humbly turned to God and said, "What do I need to know?" Immediately came the thought, "There has never been a child in pain." With the inspiration of this message, which showed the perfection of God's creation and of each of His children, the child stopped crying and in a few moments was asleep. I rang a Christian Science practitioner requesting him to pray for the boy. While the child was not suffering, little outward change seemed to take place in the foot for several days. A neighbor, who was a medical nurse, came to visit, and I suddenly felt fearful of criticism. However, I quickly countered these negative thoughts with the silent affirmation that the child had had the best treatment and nothing could detract from the power of the Christ, Truth. Our neighbor did not even comment on the child, and that night new skin appeared on his foot. The next day I was able to joyously tell the practitioner that the healing was complete.
Other healings in our family have been of influenza, bronchitis, broken ribs, sinus trouble, a painful muscular disease, and so-called childhood diseases.
