Mrs. Eddy writes in the Manual of The Mother Church (Art. VIII, Sect. 14), "It shall be the privilege and duty of every member, who can afford it, to subscribe for the periodicals which are the organs of this Church . . . ." I have taken advantage of this privilege.
Years ago I had symptoms of a nervous breakdown. I considered getting a certificate of incapacity for work so as to have a few days at home to pray for myself quietly in Christian Science. But first I wanted to let my employer know I would be away. There was no opportunity the next morning to tell him. At noon, instead of eating, I took a Christian Science Sentinel, a copy of which I always carried with me, and read it from cover to cover. When I was finished, I was very hungry and ate everything I had with me. Suddenly I knew I was healed. And this healing was complete. At night I was able to sleep again and in a short time recovered my strength.
I am unspeakably grateful for the spiritual healing of broken bones through the knowledge that we live in God and that God's idea cannot be separated from Him; for the instantaneous healing of burns from boiling lye; for protection from smoke damage; and numerous other healings. Severe colds and pneumonia were healed, and abscesses drained without incision by a doctor.
