The continuity of consciousness

From the July 1979 issue of The Christian Science Journal

True consciousness is immortal. The only real consciousness endures forever. God is Mind, and Mind is eternal consciousness. God never stops being God. Immortality never stops being immortal. Consciousness has perfect continuity because Mind is the basis of perfection. There are no intermissions to the infinity of divine Mind. Its expression is complete, timeless, constant.

Mind knows all of reality. The substance of all being is the evidence of Mind's presence. Being is perpetual because Mind is forever conscious of its creation. Consciousness is permanent because knowing is Mind's perfect realization of itself. And Mind can never stop knowing itself, because it is All.

Man is Mind's idea. He is embraced in Mind's allness. He is the individual expression of divine consciousness. Man, as idea, has ceaseless continuity. Idea is dependent on its source. Immortal Mind is the only cause. Immortal idea is the inevitable effect. Man is substantial. He has mental form, color, outline, presence. He continues in accord with his creative Principle. Idea reflects its author—deific Mind. And the author sustains His idea. Because there is only one consciousness and because that one consciousness is perpetual and divine, man's being is continuous and perfect. Individual thought, wholly good and unending, is distinct, unique. This unfailing spiritual identity is forever uninterrupted. "The identity, or idea, of all reality continues forever . . .,"Science and Health, p. 71; insists Mrs. Eddy.
