Some people wish they could find someone to marry. A great many others who are already wed would like their marriage to be a happier one. And still other individuals are struggling to fill the void left by widowhood or divorce.
Marriage would often seem to be a pretty flimsy thing—sometimes unattainable, sometimes failing to satisfy deep and lasting needs, sometimes ending abruptly.
I was once pondering a passage in Science and Health where Mrs. Eddy speaks of an afflictive circumstance becoming an angel of blessing. She goes on to say: "Then thought gently whispers: 'Come hither! Arise from your false consciousness into the true sense of Love, and behold the Lamb's wife,—Love wedded to its own spiritual idea.'" Science and Health, pp. 574-575; I knew that one meaning of "wed" is to join or unite, and I found a dictionary definition of "unite" that reads, "To become or to act as a single entity."
