Whenever fear or an overwhelming feeling of responsibility makes me doubt my ability, I have found that the truths of Christian Science, about the real man and his relationship to God, are capable of dispelling such a depression "by the renewing of [my] mind" (Rom. 12:2).
To me the marvel of such a renewal lies in the unsealed meaning of these words from a hymn by Mrs. Eddy (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 207): "Love is our refuge; only with mine eye/Can I behold the snare, the pit, the fall." That this refuge is readily available—showing the unreality of evil and the allness of good— was proved to me when I had hardly any inkling of what Christian Science was all about.
