I found Christian Science after a great deal of searching. A general physical weakness and a constant questioning of life's purpose were the motives behind this search. I wondered who or what God is. I felt there must be an answer, but I had found none.
As a young mother with a small child, public affairs activity took me regularly into an office building that had a Christian Science practitioner listed on its directory. For a year I noted this listing each time I entered the building. Finally, one day I went to the office, where I met a kind, quiet woman. She listened to me patiently, spoke to me thoughtfully, and sent me to a Christian Science Reading Room. There I bought Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and subscribed to The Christian Science Monitor on her recommendation. I have been thankful through the years that she taught me immediately to appreciate this inspiring newspaper and to use it as a tool to further my spiritual growth.
My husband did not object to my study of this Science, as long as I "did not bother him with it." (He later filled the office of First Reader in our branch church!) I began to attend a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and placed our child in the Sunday School. Very soon I lost all inclination toward medicine.
