Real security from animal magnetism

From the October 1980 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Animal magnetism. What does it mean? Can it affect me? How can I protect myself from it?

First, animal magnetism is a generic term our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, gives to all evil, including whatever is unlike God. The term is really self-explanatory. Animal magnetism is a magnetic pull on the human consciousness that would drag thought down to the level of animal reactions.

Can this so-called magnetic force affect people? Only if they are ignorant of its method of operation and do not understand God's omnipotence. On the whole, Christian Scientists realize that evil is merely the belief in an opposition to God and must not be indulged in any form. The earnest student of this Science would never knowingly yield to animal magnetism. But evil is not always obvious. It appears to work in subtle ways to ensnare even the most earnest student, unless he is awake. Thus the importance of ferreting out evil's ways and protecting oneself from the snares of animal magnetism.
