During my sophomore year in college, I was introduced to Christian Science by my husband-to-be. I then had the privilege of attending Sunday School at a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, for eight months until I turned twenty. I had been brought up in another religion, and I knew very little about the real nature of my Father-Mother God. At that point in my life I wasn't even sure I believed in God, because I had not learned how to make Him a relevant part of my life.
The love and the Christliness expressed to me by the members of the branch church were tremendous. After a few Sundays of asking many questions in Sunday School, I knew that Christian Science contained the truth of being— even though at that time I didn't understand much of it.
I began to learn how to rely on God as All-in-all. Mrs. Eddy tells us in Science and Health (p. 485): "Emerge gently from matter into Spirit. Think not to thwart the spiritual ultimate of all things, but come naturally into Spirit through better health and morals and as the result of spiritual growth." Soon I stopped using the medicines I had relied on for so long, such as cold capsules, cough drops, diet pills. Painful earaches had plagued me for many years. (It seemed that each time I caught a cold, the earache followed.) However, as I learned more of God, and of man as His reflection, many such false beliefs were dispelled from my consciousness and stopped occurring. I have not had another earache since being introduced to this healing Science over eleven years ago.
