Learning experiences

From the March 1980 issue of The Christian Science Journal

There is a sure way out of limitation and discord. We need not be resigned to sickness, sinful tendencies, or discordant relationships. In Christian Science, difficulties can be viewed as opportunities to learn more about God, good, and our identity as God's child.

God is divine Love. He is merciful, constantly present. He can be appealed to for healing under every circumstance. We can discover the infinite blessings God has already given us as His reflection. Suggestions that one may not be worthy of God's love and care or that a condition might arise that is resistant to His healing law can be proved untrue. We understand God to be as close to us as the spiritual qualities we identify and express.

Mrs. Eddy tells us, "God's being is infinity, freedom, harmony, and boundless bliss." Science and Health, p. 481; True individuality is Godlike. As we discover and live our reflected selfhood, we begin to replace with genuine poise any tendency toward the emotional instability so prevalent today. Cherishing and expressing durable qualities—such as love, harmony, and integrity—we are healed. The change from negative mortal-mindedness to spiritual-mindedness may come gradually. But when we have a deep desire to know real being and put more of it into practice, we can depend on the law of divine Love to eliminate belief in discord from our lives and to wake us up to the harmony of Soul.
