"Righteous rebellion" heals

From the March 1980 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Physical healing in Christian Science results from a powerful rebellion against sickness and suffering. It demonstrates that good, not evil, governs man.

Disease does not exist in our real being as God's spiritual expression. It is only mistaken mortal belief and therefore can be corrected with the truth. Mentally rebelling against sickness on the basis that man is spiritual and perfect, and realizing this truth, restore the body to normalcy. Alongside the marginal heading "Righteous rebellion" in Science and Health we find these words of Mrs. Eddy's: "Instead of blind and calm submission to the incipient or advanced stages of disease, rise in rebellion against them. Banish the belief that you can possibly entertain a single intruding pain which cannot be ruled out by the might of Mind, and in this way you can prevent the development of pain in the body."Science and Health, p. 391;

Each of us has the innate ability to rebel against wrong. And we are usually most rebellious when the wrong concerns us directly. Suppose we hear a knock at our door, answer it, and someone points a finger at us, declaring: "You stole my money. You are a thief and must be punished." Because we are innocent, we rebel. We vehemently reply: "I am not a thief, and I did not steal your money."
