Regardless of religious or philosophical background or views, regardless of race, color, social or economic status, or political views, no one is excluded from attending Christian Science services. When announcements are read on Sunday morning, there is usually a cordial invitation extended to all to attend the Church of Christ, Scientist, and to visit and make use of Christian Science Reading Rooms for quiet study of the Word of Truth.
But suppose no one shows any interest in a visitor. Could we sincerely say we had cordially invited him? How important it is, therefore, for each member and each Christian Scientist to help visitors to our church feel the honest warmth of our spiritual love—the love we feel ourselves, talk about, and recommend to others as the healing balm for every human ill!
We may be tempted to say rather intellectually that, well, the church is not a social institution—it is a place of spiritual activity, not for making friends; that we are spiritually rather than personally or socially interested in one another. This reasoning sometimes makes us standoffish. Yet Mrs. Eddy, the Founder and Leader of the Church of Christ, Scientist, writes, "The divinity of the Christ was made manifest in the humanity of Jesus."Science and Health, p. 25;
