Revelation, reason, and our periodicals

From the November 1981 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The truths that unfold through the Christian Science periodicals originate with God. In our support of these messengers, then, we are a bit like a hardworking gardener who plants his seed, cultivates and waters the soil, and pulls out weeds. Yet his flowers grow because of a force he doesn't originate.

We certainly can subscribe to these publications, write for them, give them as gifts, pray that they accomplish their healing, purifying mission. But God alone—and not the human intellect— empowers the truths they present. Sin and disease lose their claim to reality only when hearts are touched and transformed directly by divine Mind. Christian Scientists can unite around this truth—that God advances the mission of the periodicals.

In the prayerful support Scientists give these publications, one fact stands above all others: the allness of God, good, and His infinite creation. As we in our own thought link this truth to these messengers of divine Science, they will continue to go forward, brightening the world by giving proof of God's power to multiply purity and wholeness.
