Our branch church is having a lecture

From the November 1981 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Members of branch Churches of Christ, Scientist, know it is the Christ that draws people to Christian Science lectures. Many people are actively searching for Truth, although they may not recognize the object of their search as such. Christ, Truth, redeems mortals from mortality and its pitfalls. The action of Christ is illustrated at lectures in the recounting of specific instances of Christ-healing and by explanations of how such healing takes place.

If our churches seem to maintain a low profile, this is not because of exclusivity or aloofness; a gentle, Christian approach is indicated, rather than an aggressive one. That is, we don't force something that is precious to us on people who would have little appreciation for it. We wish to reach the receptive thought, and so our various announcements to the community about our lecture are modest and low-key; the invitation is apparent to those open to it, without being obtrusive or offensive to those who may not be.

Although members of branch churches aren't pushy, they are openly willing to share with the community. Those lectures held in the church edifices themselves are effective in showing that our doors are open to all. Those held in public or private buildings elsewhere in the area are a reaching out to people who might feel reluctant to go into an unfamiliar church edifice.
