Loving our pastor

From the January 1982 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I will always remember the day Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures was given to me—nearly thirty years ago. As I began to read, there was a feeling of great reverence and respect for the author and for the book. What is more wonderful, this feeling has continued over the years.

The reasons are many. The effect from reading this book—a transformed life with a continuing regeneration—was proof enough that the book is no ordinary one. Accompanying this proof was appreciation for the immense spirituality of the author. Mrs. Eddy knew Science and Health was no ordinary book, which would fade into oblivion. She never doubted that she was serving the developing idea of the Comforter promised by Christ Jesus, the spirit of Truth sent of God to teach us all things. She was convinced of her own mission and respected it.

Therefore, the writing of this book was not an intellectual pursuit nor a theological discourse nor mere personal opinion. The message of Science and Health was a divine revelation to a divinely prepared and spiritually receptive individual. Deep experiences had prepared the soil of this honest heart to receive the planting of the Lord.
