Two worlds or one?

From the January 1982 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Many religious people—Christians and others—believe there are two worlds, a heaven and a materially defined earth. One is the realm of God, the other is the dwelling place of mortals. In heaven there is perfect bliss, on earth all kinds of tribulation; and one must escape from earth in order to enter heaven.

Christian Science wholeheartedly embraces the statement made at the very outset of John's Gospel: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. . . . All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made." John 1:1, 3. Since there is no creation beside that which God made, there can be no other world but His.

Material evidence contradicts this; but material evidence is deceptive and does not reflect the spiritual facts. For centuries people believed they lived on a flat earth. In due course it was discovered that the earth was round. This did not mean that from that moment men ceased to live on a flat earth and started to live on a round one. They had never lived on a flat earth.
