REPORT ON ANNUAL MEETING

From the August 1982 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Reminding members of The Mother Church of their opportunity and responsibility to share spiritual freedom with all mankind, The Christian Science Board of Directors stated at this year's Annual Meeting: "The history of mankind is the history of a search for freedom. . . . [Freedom] is the natural state of man, Truth's pure image. . . . It's something we already have. It's in consciousness—right here and now. . . . Man is free for a purpose. That purpose is to be a living witness to the nature of supreme Spirit. Herein lies man's true identity and fulfillment."

This keynote address brought out the universality of the mission of The Mother Church and its branches and the permanency of its government as set forth in the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy. The address contained this pledge: "Your Board of Directors is pledged to a continuing, deepening obedience to our Leader and the Church Manual in sharing the gospel of liberty with all mankind."

Held in Boston on Monday, June 7, the 1982 Annual Meeting had the theme "The glorious liberty of God's children." Related inspirational meetings were held Monday evening and Tuesday morning and afternoon.
