For many years and in many areas of human experience, I have witnessed Christian Science healings that demonstrate God as the one loving, harmonious Principle, which governs all.
A healing I vividly recall occurred when I was in fifth grade. Early one Thursday afternoon my teacher sent me home with a high fever, severe congestion, and a sore throat. Mother telephoned a Christian Science practitioner and asked her to pray for me. Although I was in bed all day Friday, I remember hearing Mother read to me from the Bible and from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy in a loving, quiet way. Saturday morning I woke completely well. That afternoon I played in a piano recital, free from all the symptoms of previous days.
In high school I gained increasingly clearer insights into God's ever-present goodness and, as a result, was able to solve a number of problems, one of which was extreme shyness. A Sunday School teacher s explanation of Mrs. Eddy's definition of the terms, "I, or Ego" and "I AM" (see the Glossary of Science and Health, p. 588) was most helpful. She pointed out that the true Ego is God. One Sunday she asked us to observe how we used the word "I" in our daily thought and conversation. Doing this taught us the importance of identifying ourselves with spiritual characteristics such as joy, honesty, intelligence, and health, which put out the mortal traits of selfishness, fear, unkindness, and so on. Correctly identifying myself in this way has continued to bring blessings throughout the years.
