I am deeply grateful to God, our Father-Mother, who guides our steps. Gratitude and love, expressed and received, have truly regenerated me. I feel as if there is a torrential downfall of happiness, joy, and love in my life.
Some time ago, after seven nightmarish years of suffering following a nervous breakdown, I used all my strength and called on God, secretly from my heart, to help me. I begged Him to pull me from the void in which I was struggling. Then I attended a Christian Science lecture given in my city. This was on March 9, 1980. When I left the lecture that day, someone gave me a copy of The Herald of Christian Science (French Edition). Several days later, choked with anguish and depression, I felt impelled to read this little magazine. I opened it and began to read. The effect was immediate; I felt relief. Afterward I went to a local Christian Science branch church to find out what this religion was about.
When I arrived I was welcomed very lovingly. Later I spent several peaceful hours in the Reading Room. After finding out that there was a Christian Science practitioner who was a member of the church, I immediately got in touch with her and asked her to help me. On my first visit I felt better, freer. The practitioner very lovingly helped me begin to understand my true being as a spiritual idea, as a child of God; she assured me that I was created by God in His image—pure and perfect. Within one month I was completely healed. I immediately wrote the health insurance company, which had been compensating me during this time, told them about my complete healing, and asked them to discontinue the compensation.
