Be firm with error!

From the May 1983 issue of The Christian Science Journal

There can be nothing apart from infinity, nothing additional to omnipresence. Whatever seems to be, yet differs from God's loving presence and perfection, is illusion. When we stand fast in seeing this, we are safe. Even though evil screams, roars, and threatens, presenting its pictures of discord, we can and should remain calm and unconvinced, steadfast with Truth, knowing it is the old liar up to its mesmeric tricks.

Standing firm in the face of whatever may seem, by knowing what is, brings sure relief. God, the Mind that is Life, Truth, and Love, is the only power and presence, and we can prove this.

When Christ Jesus was confronted with a paralyzed man, he did not say, "Will you please get up?" He commanded, "Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house." Matt. 9:6. He did not suggest that after having got up, the man should take things easy. No, he was to get up and pick up his bed mat—show his ability to use arms and legs, give evidence of complete healing. So with us. We are not to deal gently with error. We do deal gently with those who seem to be suffering, but not with the error, the false belief, causing the apparent suffering.
