Poems

In that bright hour

From the May 1983 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christ-call rang clear:
Lazarus, come forth.
He listened and he came
in that bright hour.

The Christ calls now.
And are we Lazarus,
aroused
from dreams of old occurrences
emerging
from the tomb of time
into joyful day
at his command?
Are we friends
watching in unbelief?

Loose him,
and let him go.

As we unbind
the coils of causeless grief,
unwinding all the shrouds
of false belief,
we see man as he is
in that bright hour—
enlightened, God-empowered,
walking free.
