The spiritual perception of a Christian Science nurse

From the May 1983 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A Christian Scientist is spiritually alert to discern disease as an error of belief rather than as the physical malady it appears to be. The Christian Science nurse especially needs to know that physical sickness hints at a diseased or limited state of thought and that both the physical disorder and the mortal mentality are suggestions only.

Instead of being a medical fact, disease is erring thinking objectified. The more convinced the nurse is of the mental nature of ill health, the more likely he or she will be to remain undisturbed by what medical theory might call it.

The nurse's role in helping to create the proper environment for healing requires a radical spiritual perception. The nurse's relationship to the patient is one of being an aid to care for the patient's needs while God's presence is being demonstrated. The nurse is not the practitioner, nor does the nurse usurp the relationship between the practitioner and patient. The main line of communication is between practitioner and patient. A nurse never injects himself or herself between the two.
