As I begin this testimony, I realize how grateful I am for spiritually-minded parents. Although they were not Christian Scientists while I was growing up, in times of need they always turned to God.
When I was in my late teens and was working in an office, I began to have seizures that left me unconscious. During a period of two years, I was examined by three different doctors who gave three different names to this ailment. I had to get a leave of absence from my job. During that time, I had a seizure while visiting a friend. After I recovered she said, "You've tried everything else and only grown worse. Why don't you take this book home with you and study it." I knew that she was a Christian Scientist, but I knew nothing of the religion itself.
I took the copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy home with me and began reading it right away. I knew immediately that it was the truth I had been searching for. I also saw clearly that changes would have to be made in my way of life. I saw that my thought was full of fears of all sorts, and that this wonderful truth of God's allness would have to help me let go of those fears. There was a period when I stopped reading out of a feeling that change was just too hard for me.
