THE CHURCH IN ACTION

ACTION IN THE FIELD

Nursing at the foot of the cross

From the November 1984 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"Just what does a Christian Science nurse do?" This is a question many ask. Someone unfamiliar with the training and skills of a Christian Science nurse might mistake her for a medical nurse. But this would be a misconception, because a Christian Science nurse has a substantial obligation to maintain awareness of spiritual reality and to think and act from that basis. In addition to providing practical care, the Christian Science nurse in this way supports the healing work of the practitioner.

Following is an account of a Christian Science nurse in action. It's a look at some of the ways a nurse prays, accomplishes duties, and abides by the guidelines for the nurse given in the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy.See Man., Art. VIII, Sect. 31.
