Understanding with the heart

From the November 1984 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Through understanding that is loyally lived, one can know God well enough to prove in some degree that He is All-in-all. He must be understood with the heart if He is to be demonstrated. To understand with the heart is to feel the very presence of God, to know Him with utter assurance.

God is divine Principle; and divine Principle is living, not merely abstract. Divine Principle is Supreme Being, the eternal Life of God's ideal man, our true identity. Principle is Love, the fundamental source and immediate cause of all real being.

We receive the understanding of God and man into our affections by drawing into accord with the moral and spiritual demands of Christian teaching. And as we do, being good and doing right become our highest joy. In proportion as we cherish Principle as our only Life, Love, Truth, Mind, Spirit, and Soul, we are spiritually reborn to realize our eternal, true selfhood as man created in God's likeness.
