Fruitage—the proof of what we claim

From the August 1984 issue of The Christian Science Journal

If someone says he's a good carpenter, we would expect to see evidence, perhaps in the way he frames a house or hangs a door. If someone tells us that he knows how to plant a vegetable garden, we might expect to see plenty of fresh cucumbers or tomatoes on the dinner table!

No matter what the endeavor, whenever there's a claim that something can be accomplished, we naturally anticipate results. So when people hear about a religion that teaches spiritual healing, shouldn't they legitimately hope to witness clear proof in actual works of regeneration and healing?

Mrs. Eddy, who discovered Christian Science, surely realized the importance of demonstrating in a practical way the spiritual truths that God revealed to her. Christian Science, she knew, had come to this age with the redeeming power of Christ, Truth, and the people must see its wonderful effects. Mrs. Eddy began to preach, teach, and heal with this Science. She wrote down what divine Mind revealed, and she finally published for the world the textbook, Science and Health, elucidating the spiritual import of the Bible and commemorating the God-crowned ministry of Christ Jesus.
