To those who cling to tradition, it may seem as though a void exists in the Church of Christ, Scientist, whose only preachers are the Bible, and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Some may feel there is no place to turn when one needs help in demonstrating that, as Science and Health declares, "all reality is in God and His creation, harmonious and eternal." Science and Health, p. 472.
However, as one grows to a fuller understanding of Christian Science, it becomes apparent that the Church's unique pastor actually provides each student with help on a full-time basis—help that is always available to fill the need of the moment. In a message to The Mother Church, Mrs. Eddy, the Founder of Christian Science, explains it this way: "Your dual and impersonal pastor, the Bible, and 'Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,' is with you; and the Life these give, the Truth they illustrate, the Love they demonstrate, is the great Shepherd that feedeth my flock, and leadeth them 'beside the still waters.'" Miscellaneous Writings, p. 322.
No matter what the difficulty seems to be—large or small—our pastor is there to comfort, strengthen, and encourage us. What we need to do is to turn with humbled heart and ask for God's help; and the pastor Truth has ordained will give us the specific guidance we need in order to bring about a healing. In this way we will grow in our understanding of how to live the spirit of Truth more consistently in every aspect of our lives. To illustrate, let me tell how one student of this Science found healing when she asked the pastor for help.
