The inward voice

From the February 1985 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Have you ever heard the inward voice? There are many accounts in the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, of the still small voice coming to men as distinctly as sound. For instance, Abraham heard it just in time to spare the life of his son, Isaac. Moses heard it at the burning bush, and Peter heard it in prison as an angelic voice instructing him how to free himself.

Some may identify this voice as conscience; others, intuition. In actual fact, it is the voice of Christ, Truth, speaking to each of us. We all have the ability to recognize it and its effect on humanity.

The purpose of Christ's coming to humanity is to heal and save. Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health, "Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness." Science and Health, p. 332. Sometimes it comes as a whisper, or conviction, or spiritual intuition, gently prompting us in the right direction. At other times it may come as loud and clear as audible sound.
