"Ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light" (I Pet. 2:9). These words of Peter's express how discovering and experiencing Christian Science for myself have made me feel.
Having been a member of another church since early childhood, and having taught Bible classes for many years, I considered myself a good Christian. When my husband (a student of Christian Science) and I met and ultimately married, we agreed to respect each other's denominational preference. After about six months, however, and seeing many demonstrations made by this active Christian Scientist, one day I asked my husband if I could study with him. He agreed, and we studied together numerous times after that. (I was beginning to realize that I had reached a plateau in my understanding of God; I seemed to be at a spiritual standstill.)
Since infancy I had suffered with allergic reactions, ear infections, middle ear disturbances (involving complete loss of equilibrium for several days), and sinus headaches. I had submitted to medical treatment by specialists in several parts of the country and was told in each instance that there was nothing more medically that could be done for me. Also, at some point I had suffered an injury to my knee which caused me to move awkwardly because of stiffness. My life seemed filled with "can't do's" and periods of discouragement.
