From the July 1985 issue of The Christian Science Journal

With the publication of this article by Emma C. Shipman we begin a new series in the Journal. From time to time we will publish selected articles or editorials from past periodicals.

We could not possibly reprint all the outstanding articles from the past. Our purpose is not to pick out Christian Science "classics," nor to "recognize" outstanding figures. Some items may be by well-known teachers of Christian Science; others have been written by comparatively unknown individuals.

Articles have been chosen primarily on the basis of their relevance to present needs. You may notice that the language and style of these articles differ slightly from today's standards, but perhaps you'll agree that true spiritual illumination never goes out of style.

We hope you'll take as much joy as the present Editors have in thinking again about the selfless spiritual commitment of all those Christian Scientists who have contributed so much to the Cause of Christian Science and whose words and examples still speak to us today.
