Poems

An endeavor of the heart

From the July 1985 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I see progress in so many little ways,
The chastened motive, the quiet Godward gaze.

A slower pace my footsteps find—
A redemptive life, a regenerated mind.

Now the horse comes before the cart;
Grace not merely a studied part.

For ritual and realization are far apart,
Religion being an endeavor of the heart.
