Breaking the cycle

From the August 1985 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Repetition
has not (somehow
I think you'll agree) the variety
of Soul, the uplift
of Spirit's buoyancy—
is not a spiral
of continuous ascending,
but only
a (vicious) circle.
It is the recurrent resort
of the hypnotist,
like the catchy phrase
from a commercial echoing
in thought till any association
with the original content
is lost. Inane and mindless,
this can have no place in Mind's
harmonious action.
Let
Christly inspiration
lift the needle
from any tedious
flatland groove—
and the song
of your one true selfhood
be freed
into Spirit's unbounded dimensions.
