Without a cause it cannot be

From the February 1986 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For something to be it must have an origin, a cause—something that gives it life, law that gives it continuity.

Through the study of Christian Science, which explains the Scriptures, we learn that God is the only true cause, the one creator, the origin of all that really is—in fact, the All-in-all. God Himself has declared this. An Old Testament prophet writes: "Thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the Lord; and there is none else."Isa. 45:18 .

The first chapter of Genesis states incontrovertibly, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." The account also declares: "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion . . . . So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."Gen. 1:1,26,27 .
