"Through the Looking-Glass"

From the February 1986 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Some like what they see in the mirror more than others.

But whether a person uses a mirror a little or a lot, the mirror is an appropriate symbol to illustrate the spiritual concept of reflection. One of the simplest and most basic statements of Christian Science is "Man reflects God."

The mirror as a symbol of reflection starts us in a right direction of thought, away from the concept that man, the real and perfect man, has a will and movement all his own. It helps convey a primary understanding that man is perfectly governed by God, and that as God's image or reflection, man cannot act differently from his cause.
