Each year Christian Science becomes more precious to me, and I am more able to use it in the minutiae of my daily life. With a growing understanding that God's goodness is ever unfolding, available to me and all, I have found I am able to accomplish more each day and to maintain a greater sense of calm. I also possess more energy and better health than I did in my teen years and my "career years" twenty years ago and more.
There have been many landmarks along the way. One occurred during my working days following college. I was asked to type some material on a different machine from the one I usually used. It was suggested that I put this extra typewriter on the tray which was built into my desk. I had not used this tray before and did not realize that it was held into position inside the desk by a heavy spring. When I released the lever the tray snapped up quickly, and my hand was jammed between the tray and the top of the desk.
My first thought was that the force had been strong enough to break some bones. Instantly I reversed this thought as an erroneous one and claimed my innate perfection as God's child. Others in the office had heard the noise of the crash and came to see what the problem was. It was suggested that I soak my hand in cold water. As I stood at the sink with my hand immersed, I realized that I did not have to accept this material remedy as needed or useful. I had a good deal of typing to do that day, and I felt confident that I could be about my proper business. Though the hand was swollen and badly discolored, I was able to use it freely to accomplish the needed tasks.
