I am very grateful to God for many healings accomplished through the study and application of Christian Science. These include a sprained wrist, colds, headaches, and a quick healing of measles when I was fifteen. The following healing was a milestone in my experience.
Late one Friday afternoon at the end of a recycling collection on my college campus, I backed a truck to the entrance of a large shed. I unloaded the cardboard and then jumped on top of the large pile I had thrown off. Instantly there was extreme pain in one foot, and I remembered that underneath the spot where I had landed were two steel bars that protruded about two inches above the concrete floor. The bars were there to guide the sliding doors of the building.
At once I denied the suggestion that a mistake could destroy the peace and harmony of God's day, and I forgave myself for being careless. I knew that in my real identity as God's precious child I could experience nothing unlike Him. Therefore I had to see the lie of accident as having no place in my true selfhood.
