You can afford to be generous

From the May 1986 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Most of us enjoy giving. We find joy in being generous to our family, our church, and our fellowman. We would like to be able to reach deep into our pockets without any feeling of limitation. How can we afford to do this?

The ability to give from our heart— without reservation—comes with an increasing understanding of God's vast nature, His allness. As our thought opens to see more and more of God's infinite goodness, we find that abundance is natural for God and His likeness, spiritual man—our true selfhood.

Think, for instance, how our Exemplar of ideal manhood, the master Christian, Christ Jesus, manifested the infinite resources of Spirit. He multiplied good by feeding the multitude with only a few loaves and fishes—and there were leftovers! He was utilizing a divine law of abundance, which each of us can demonstrate today.
