One time the inspiration gained from a simple statement of Truth was able to turn around completely a fatal medical prediction.
I was seventeen years old at the time, a junior in high school. I became violently ill, and the family doctor was called out to our farm. Two unsuccessful operations followed for a ruptured appendix. Afterward I suffered peritonitis and a punctured bowel. No hope was given me or my family for my survival.
We were not Christian Scientists then. However, a dear aunt was a new student and had been writing us about the wonderful things she was learning in Christian Science. So when the doctor advised my family that he could do no more, they remembered my mother's sister and Christian Science. Looking back now, I see this as a fulfillment of God's promise (Isa. 65:24) "And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear." My aunt was called and agreed to come. She made but one visit to me. That was sufficient.
