I am deeply grateful for all the healings and for the countless blessings the study of Christian Science has brought to my life. This vital teaching has been our family's way of life for four generations.
At birth I was diagnosed as having eczema by the attending physician. But I was healed quickly through Christian Science treatment alone, and I left the hospital completely free. (No medication had been given me.) I was also healed of a mastoid condition when I was only a few months old. The healing came when my mother realized that God, divine Love, was my true Father and Mother, and that I was in God's perfect care always. This turning to God completely healed my mother of great fear. Subsequently I slept through the night and woke perfectly well, the ear having drained during the night. There were no aftereffects.
Years later I was healed of frequent headaches and the need to wear glasses. I also overcame a chronic problem of being overweight. This last healing occurred in my early teens. After years of passively waiting to "outgrow my baby fat," I realized that this merely flesh-and-blood concept of myself was simply not valid. I did not diet, although my eating habits changed. For one thing, when I realized that food could not really satisfy me—that I was already satisfied and complete as God's child—I was healed of a craving for sweets. The greatest blessing of all was the spiritual freedom I gained. Food ceased to dominate my thinking, and acute self-consciousness yielded to a more spontaneous and outgoing nature. All this, of course, was the result of my gaining a deeper understanding of my true worth as God's expression.
