At one point an inflamed skin condition developed on one side of my face and head. When I first saw it, I immediately affirmed what I knew to be true of my spotless nature as God's perfect man and acknowledged God's supreme control over His creation. Then I gave the matter little attention.
The next day, however, co-workers expressed deep concern about my appearance. Within forty-eight hours the condition had worsened into one of considerable disfigurement.
Over the next few days the pain increased to the degree that I feared a loss of sight in one eye as well as permanent disfigurement. Still, I knew that I was going to rely solely on Christian Science. This was not a willful act on my part. Rather it was the affirmation of a spiritual certainty dawning in my consciousness. I would "trust in the Lord with all [my] heart; and lean not unto [my] own understanding" (Prov. 3:5). I clearly understood that I was taking a stand for healing through divine Truth.
