Planting, tending, reaping

From the January 1988 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Today, as in the past, people attending Sunday or Wednesday evening services in a Church of Christ, Scientist, find them to be healing services. This is no accident. Following—and fulfilling—the teachings of Christ Jesus, Christian Science provides the means for individuals to be healed through prayer.

To help church services maintain their essential healing element requires spiritual growth on the part of members and regular attendants. And an analogy that might be helpful to our prayers for our church is the planting, tending, and reaping of a garden.

Every gardener knows that rich earth is a crucial element in assuring a bountiful harvest. In our prayerful work for ourselves and our churches, human consciousness is the earth that must be planted with seeds of truth.
