Several years ago I moved to a city in the southwestern United States. When I arrived I was in pain, quite ill, and very frightened. I had been in failing health for several years and under constant medical care. My physical troubles, which were many, included those of heart disease, epilepsy, diabetes, a degenerated hip, and shortness of one leg. Finally I was told that there was nothing more that could be done for me medically.
I had been brought up in Christian Science but had later drifted away. Now I knew I had to make a choice, and I did. I knew I no longer had any faith in medical means. So I declined further medical treatment, discarded all medication, and headed for a local Christian Science Reading Room.
At the Reading Room a very loving librarian dialed a Christian Science practitioner for me, as I was unable to do so. The practitioner agreed to pray for me and asked me to come to her office. There we talked for over an hour, recalling spiritual truths I had learned in a Christian Science Sunday School and talking of the goodness of God. She reminded me that the real man is spiritual, created in God's own likeness. Feeling at peace, I then returned to the Reading Room and studied the Bible and Mary Baker Eddy's writings until closing time. Then I went back to my apartment and studied Christian Science further.
