Since I first began to study Christian Science, many of those who have discovered that this is my religion and way of life have asked the same question regarding healing—"What if ...?" I always gave essentially the same answer, that no matter what, I would rely on Christian Science treatment through prayer. Then one day when I went to a gynecologist to see if I was pregnant, I was told I had cancer of the uterus. Immediate surgery was advised.
Returning home, I felt completely devastated. My husband, who is also a Christian Scientist, lovingly said he would stand by my side with whatever decision I came to regarding treatment. I began to study and pray, but at the end of a few weeks I gave in to fear and the grave picture painted by the doctor and resorted to a surgical remedy. But after the operation, tests were taken, and the doctor said the condition still existed. More extensive surgery was advised.
I can honestly say I was not surprised to hear that this method had not solved the problem. I began to see the spiritual unreality of this condition, which was a horrible lie about man, who is actually the perfect spiritual idea of God. I got in touch with a Christian Science practitioner, who began to pray very diligently with me about this situation. I studied the Beatitudes from the Bible and also read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy constantly.
